Cross-curricular A level

A study of the effects of weathering & erosion on a local river valley covers topics on both the science & geography curricula.

Here we can combine a geographical and biological study (e.g. invetebrates the students can find in the river)

The Centre has its own weather station, giving students the opportunity to collect primary data as well as look at secondary data. Aspects of climate change within the local area can be studied both in the long term (glaciation) and the shorter term (effects of global warming).

Here student can walk the traditional transhumance route that farmers used (some still do!) to take their cattle from the Gredos to their winter pastures.

Cross-Curricular studies can also be approached through the study of a THEME. We could offer a stuy of ENERGY which would include aspects of History, Physics, Biology and Geography through the following topics:

- Energy in the past - Water mills (examples).

- Renewable energy - Solar power.

- Energy in the plant kingdom.

- Energy through the food chain.

Here we can offer students the opportunity of analysing the impact of a change from a farming based to a tourist based economy.
